Bunchberry
This plant is called a bunch berry. It is also called a dwarf dogwood. The Latin name for the bunchberry is Cornus canadensis. The leaves are smooth. The leaf shape is elliptical. The leaves come in groupings of 4 or 6 and they are symmetrical. This picture was taken in October, so the leaves have turned pinkish-reddish. The berries are edible, but hardly worth it due to the single hard seed at the center to which the edible part clings tenaciously.
